Bromley have it all to do again on Tuesday evening after a goalless draw at the Longmead Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Relegated at the start of the current campaign, and now members of the Ryman League Premier Division, Tonbridge Angels opened strongly and pegged Bromley back more or less from the start without creating any clear-cut chances.

They had the first chance of the half after just six minutes' play when Tommy Whitnell’s cross-goal strike was just wide of the upright.

Bromley eventually got going and Jordan Robertson should have converted after 19 minutes, when he was on the end of a pinpoint cross from Ugo Udoji, only to scuff his shot wide with only the goalkeeper to beat from eight yards.

One minute later Jack Holland headed a difficult clearance wide of goal, after Louis Dennis’s corner had been cleared by a defender straight to him, before Moses Ademola and Danny Waldren both had goalbound shots charged down.

Just past the half-hour mark Tonbridge were denied by a great save from Bromley’s goalkeeper, Craig King, who was in the side replacing the suspended Seb Brown.  The 19-year-old loanee from Luton Town got down smartly to save Whitnell’s downward header from a James Folkes cross.

With almost the last kick of the half, Ademola was unlucky not to have put Bromley ahead but was denied by a first-class save from Tonbridge’s goalkeeper, Thomas Hadler.

The second half saw a much stronger performance from Bromley, who created several chances but were unable to turn them into goals.

Dennis and Ademola combined well before the former shot just wide, and moments later Dennis sent a curling right footed effort against the angle of the crossbar and post. Then, on 58 minutes, Hadler was in the right place at the right time to save Ali Fuseini’s low bouncing shot from 20 yards.

For all their possession, Bromley still found Tonbridge a threat. Twice Jack Holland had to be alert to deny Whitnell clear sights of goal with timely tackles, and the impressive Dee Okojie was particularly dangerous on breaks down the flanks. From one such foray, Alex Teniola’s header was brilliantly tipped over the bar by King, following the winger's cross from the left.

Hadler went full length to gather Joe Anderson’s long-range effort, before the goalkeeper dived to his right to brilliantly turn around the post Anderson’s 28-yard free-kick.

Jamie Slabber headed wide from a narrow angle, but both sides played out the remaining minutes of the game without creating anything worthwhile, and must replay at Hayes Lane on Tuesday evening for the chance to meet Leiston in the next round.
