Cray’s great run in the FA Trophy and attempt to reach the 1st Round Proper for the first time came to an end at Weymouth but only after taking the lead and giving a great account of themselves against a good side.

On fifteen minutes Cray scored when Marlon Patterson put in a great cross down the left and the ball fell to Adrian Stone who tucked home a very composed finish.

Weymouth had had chances and on 31 minutes they levelled the scores with a well worked goal when Chris Shepherd’s cross which was flicked on by Tim Sills to Stewart Yetton who headed home from 4 yards.

In the second half Hussein Isa hit a free kick wide and Laurent Hamici hit a shot straight at Jason Matthews for Cray.

However on 64 minutes Weymouth took the lead following a rather soft penalty award.  Dmitri Larin was adjudged to have nudged Adam Kelly inside the box and the referee pointed to the spot.  Yetton hit his second goal of the game from the kick.

Weymouth scored again in the 84th minute when substitute Tristan Plummer bundled the ball over the line from Yetton’s header.

Despite the defeat Cray can have much to be proud of with a performance which belied their lowly league position.
