Bromley came from behind for the second successive week to record a rather fortunate 2-1 victory over old rivals Sutton United at Hayes Lane on Saturday.
The visitors enjoyed most of the early possession, with the Ravens’ Danny Waldren booked in the fourth minute for a rather clumsy tackle.
However, in Bromley’s first attack Jordan Robertson broke through on goal, only for Alan Julian to race from his area and block his shot.
In doing so, the Sutton keeper went down injured before the loose ball broke to Pierre Joseph-Dubois who was slow to react and dispossessed before he could fire into an empty net.
Bromley custodian Seb Brown did well two minutes later to parry Billy Medlock’s close range effort before the Sutton striker put the loose ball wildly over the bar.
The home side’s failure to defend set pieces for most of the season proved to be their downfall again as the visitors opened the scoring on 14 minutes.
A deep corner from the right was headed back into the six yard box by Craig Dundas and Sutton debutant Jamie White – newly signed from Bristol Rovers - had the easiest of tap ins.
The Lillywhites’ response was immediate.
Louis Dennis saw an effort well saved by Julians, but the keeper’s clearance was wayward, resulting in a Bromley throw in, from which Moses Ademola was fouled.
A quickly taken free-kick put Dennis to the byline and his cross was headed home by Joseph-Dubois to level the scores on 18 minutes.
Despite this, Sutton continued to boss the game, being much sharper on the ball and crisper in their passing.
White went close on two occasions before Brown was quickly out to save at Medlock’s feet as half-time approached.
Ademola was unlucky not to have put Bromley in front six minutes into the second half, fastening on to a Reece Prestedge through ball, holding off the challenge of Charlie Gough before hitting the post with his shot.
Rob Swaine nearly scored an own goal as he slid in to clear from a White cross, but fortunately the ball skidded off his shin and past the post.
Ademola should have done better with a free header from Joe Anderson’s cross, putting his effort straight at Julian.
Sutton were still continuing to have more of the possession and substitute Shaquille Hippolyte-Patrick was denied by Brown following a mazy run which carried him into the danger zone.
Dundas and Bedsonte Gomis also went close as the visitors looked to press home their advantage.
Substitute Jamie Slabber only had the keeper to beat but poor execution of his curling shot enabled Julian to make an easy save, while at the other end Brown made a smart save from Callum Hart.
Adam Birchall was denied by Julian, the keeper doing well to tip his effort over the bar.
Joseph-Dubois hit the bar with a header three minutes from time after Swaine had headed Anderson’s free-kick across goal.
But within 60 seconds he had better luck to score what proved to be the winning goal.
Prestedge’s low shot was spilled by Julian into the path of Slabber, who was denied by a great parry by the keeper.
However, fortunately for Bromley it fell to Joseph-Dubois, who stabbed home despite loud appeals for offside.
There was still time for Sutton to hit the woodwork, but Bromley held on to move up a place to second in the Conference South table.
