Once again, Welling United did everything right apart from scoring against promotion chasing Macclesfield Town.
Despite injuries and suspensions causing Jamie Day to make multiple changes, the team put in a superb performance.
Zach Fagan returned from suspension to partner Michael Chambers who made his first league start for the club with Jamal Fyfield moving to left back for the injured Ben Jefford.
Sam Corne came in for the suspended Jake Gallagher in midfield and Aristide Bassele returned from injury to replace Kieron St. Aimie.
Two development squad players, Archie Johnson and Joey Taylor, were drafted into the squad having impressed in the clubs' F.A. Youth Cup run.
Bassele had the first opportunity but his shot was blocked for the first of Welling's numerous corners.
Chambers had a header cleared away desperately, then Jamie Day came close as Welling continued to search for an opening goal.
Andy Halls cleared off the line twice in quick succession, first from Bassele, then from Charlie Penny before the latter shot narrowly wide having slipped his defender.
Rhys Taylor then came to the Silkmen's defence tipping over Bassele's header then made a save from Harry Beautyman.
It almost went wrong for the Wings when Town's leading scorer Waide Fairhurst was given an opening by a half clearance but he snatched at the opportunity and pulled his shot wide.
Danny Whitaker was cautioned for a late tackle on Beautyman as Welling continued to search for the opening goal before Joe Healy tried an audacious effort that went over.
Alex Grant soon followed his captain into the referee's notebook for a crude challenge on Bassele but the Silkmen managed to get to the break with the scores level.
Having regrouped, the visitors had their best spell of the match immediately after the interval.
Scott Barrow met a deep cross at the far post but Jonathan Henly got his positioning right to block away the close range shot.
Henly was again called into action saving from Adriano Moke after some slick Macclesfield passing created the opening.
Full backs Barney Williams and Fyfield looked to get forward whenever possible and the latter's cross found Bassele but he could not find the target with his header.
Fyfield then had a go himself and his fierce angled drive was tipped over by Taylor.
Chambers had a shot blocked before Fairhurst became the third Town player to be booked for a bad challenge, this one going through Day.
Grant then headed wide for Macclesfield when he should have done better before Malachi Hudson replaced the hard working Bassele.
Healy, for kicking the ball away, and Moke, for diving, were soon added to the referee's mounting list of bookings.
Hudson made his presence felt quickly against a tiring defence, first when crossing just beyond Penny, then when cutting in to shoot wide of the near post.
Corne made a perfectly timed tackle to thwart a late Macclesfield attack however Welling almost claimed the three points their performance deserved when Chambers' header crashed against the bar and over.
Welling United: Henly, Williams, Fyfield, Day, Fagan, Chambers, Beautyman, Corne, Penny, Bassele (Hudson 76), Healy. Unused substitutes: Turner, Taylor, St. Aimee, Johnson.
