VCD Athletic exited the FA Trophy as a well organised Tonbridge Angles team dominated the first half and benefited from the football gods in the second.
Tony Russell’s best laid plans were disrupted in the 20th minute when Ellis Green looked to have damaged a hamstring and was replaced by Sean Roberts.
Half-time was looming as Tonbridge took the lead in the 43rd minute.
The nimble Billy Matlock reacted quickest from a corner and finished from close range as the VCD defence glared at the linesman for a foul that never came.
VCD went 4-4-2 after the break and although chances materialised, as so often is the case this season they went begging.
In the final minute, a rasping shot from Leigh Bremner rebounded off the post and from the resulting counter attack, Flavio Tavares scored for Angels with a superb curling 20-yard effort which nestled in the bottom left hand corner.
VCD: Blue, McDonagh (Cox 52), Basey, Reeves, Tozer, Dawson, Carpenter, Dent, Power, Perkins (Bremner 64) , Green ( Roberts 20). Unused subs – Penfold,, Deen. Att: 156.
