History was made by VCD Athletic on Monday night when they played Kingstonian for the very first time and picked up a vital 1-0 win.
Joy for the travelling VCD fans was further heightened as the three points came back to Crayford and the Vickers moved themselves off the bottom of the table, sucking the aristocratic Surrey club closer to the mire.
The victory was fair reward for a superb performance against a Kingstonian side which started very brightly but ran out of ideas in the face of a VCD team effort that scrapped for every inch of territory and moment of possession.
Some fine last-ditch defending and a truly fantastic performance by keeper Nicky Blue ensured Michael Power's 65th minute close range finish after a lightening break down the right was enough to secure three vital points.
VCD manager Tony Russell said: “This was a confidence boosting performance and shows we can equip ourselves to come to places like this and slug things out toe-to-toe.
“I’m very proud of the lads tonight.”
