VCD went down to a 2-0 defeat at Wingate & Finchley on Saturday.
A failure to move the ball quickly in the final third of the pitch proved to be the Vickers’ downfall in this match where in truth there was very little to split these two teams.
On a crisp autumnal afternoon, both teams managed to muster only three shots in the first have as defenders and combative midfielders gave no quarter.
However, in the 47th minute the home team broke the deadlock.
A bemused Taylor McDonagh was awarded a foul against him despite a clean tackle and the resulting free-kick was scuffed through a sea of legs, where Marc Weatherstone made no mistake from close range.
VCD were unable to turn good possession into chances and only drew two saves from the home keeper throughout the entire match.
Things were wrapped up by substitute Karl Oliyide in the 90th minute when he tapped in despite a foul on Karl Dent in the build up.
This was a performance which leaves all at VCD something to think about as failure to beat the teams that a comparable might leave the club well and truly in the froth.
