MILLWALL’S two-goal hero against Middlesbrough Andy Keogh is confident the Lions will do well this season despite financial constraints.

The Irish star got one in each half on Saturday with two predatory strikes, latching onto a rebound after James Henry hit the post and guiding Scott Malone’s cross into the far corner late on.

A 3-1 win was a fair result for the Lions after they took control of the game following a sluggish start, looking dangerous on the break and creating chances throughout.

Man-of-the-match Keogh hit the post with a header in the first half but was on hand to finish in the 36th minute after the woodwork denied team-mate Henry following Liam Trotter’s opener for Millwall.

He said: “We’ve got a good team.

“We create chances, we just have to get in the positions to try and get them on target.

“We’ve got good players though we’ve not got a massive budget.

“If we keep everyone fit and happy we’ll go a long way.”

Keogh was full of praise for Henry, who was a constant threat down the right hand side against the Teesiders.

“James is playing well,” he added.

“He’s very fit and he gets at his fullback and gets crosses in and as long as he keeps doing that, he’ll do very well.”

Former Wolves striker Keogh was rewarded for his persistence after the post and Boro keeper Jason Steele both thwarted him before he put Millwall 2-0 up.

He said: “The keeper made a good save and I hit the post but I kept plugging away and got the goal.

“For the second goal I got a good touch on it and it was probably the angle that helped it.

“But I got the two goals and we’ll kick on and go from here.”

And after a frustrating time at Molineux, including loan spells at Cardiff, Bristol City and Leeds, the Republic of Ireland international is at ease and raring to go in south London.

He said: “I’ve not been settled, I’ve not played regularly with loans and too much in and out of the team but if I play regularly I’ll score enough goals and have a good ratio.

“It’s all in the past and I’m at Millwall and I’m happy.”

Should the Lions go on a run and challenge for promotion, the Premier League holds no fear for striker Keogh after his starring role in this win.

“I’ve played in the Premier League for long enough now, I know the type of players you play against and how hard it can be but it’s good how I’ve performed myself,” he said.
