CHARLTON manager Chris Powell is still interested in signing Dany N’Guessan and believes he would add something different to his attacking options.

The Frenchmen had a fruitful loan spell at the Valley last season and remains a target for the Addicks despite them having a loan bid rejected by Millwall last week.

However, this hasn’t necessarily put Powell off.

He said: “There has been a long-standing interest from us.

“There has been a bit of a stalemate with regards to discussions on Dany.

“We will have to come to an agreement, something may happen at the last minute.

“Whether something will happen before Friday, I don’t know.”

Powell is well aware of the fact that if a permanent deal isn’t struck, he will have the chance to once again acquire N’Guessan’s services on a temporary basis when the loan window opens.

He said: “Of course we still have the opportunity in 10 days time to move with regards to a loan but that is a bit out of my hands at the moment.

“It is quite a difficult time for everyone.”

Talking about the striker’s qualities, the Addicks boss explained: “Dany will add to our squad, he would add that physical presence, add that power.

“He is a goal threat.”

Charlton do already have a number of strikers on their books, although Powell hinted young Michael Smith could be set for another loan spell away from the club after last year’s temporary switch to Accrington Stanley.

He added: “Obviously I have got some good strikers here in Yann Kermorgant, Bradley Wright-Phillips, Ricardo Fuller, Danny Haynes, Jordan Cook and young Michael Smith, who I have had on the bench.

“Michael needs to play now, hopefully he will go out on loan in the future to add to his development.

“I want us to be strong in that department.

“I want us to always try and add good players, strong players with power and with that Championship know how.”
