ADDICKS boss Chris Powell is more than satisfied with his lot after a positive start to life in the Championship.

Charlton maintained their unbeaten record on Saturday with a 0-0 draw at home to Hull to build on the earlier opening day point at Birmingham and the maximum midweek return against Leicester.

“It has been a good week and I’ve got to take a lot of positives from this week,” the manager said.

“A lot of people were looking at my squad and thinking ‘will they cope?’ and we are unbeaten in our first three games - three tough games.

“Arguably the Birmingham game was a real tough game for the first game but they got that out of the way.

“I thought they were exceptional on Tuesday and today. I’m very happy with our first clean sheet. I didn’t want us to lose.

“Could we have been gung-ho?

“It’s our third game and they put in a tremendous effort to earn us a point.

“Of course we would have liked three but I suppose we had in balance the better of the first half, they had the better of the second, so I suppose on reflection 0-0 is the right result and we are unbeaten with five points from three games.

“I’m quietly happy with that.”

Charlton’s success last year was built on relentless long winning runs but Powell was the first to accept it wouldn’t be so easy this time.

He said: “You are talking about a different calibre of player.

“You are talking about players quite a few of them, especially in the three teams we’ve played, have played in the Premier League.

“A lot of my players are new to the Championship, not all of them but quite a few of them have never played at this level but they are good enough to play at it and I’ve always felt that they are.

“They’ve shown it this week.

“It would have been great for us to collect all three points but it hasn’t happened.

“They’ve had a good week. They’ve had a tough week but they’ve had a good week and it’s now about recovering and working on tactics now for the next game and how we can improve.

“I’ve got to be quietly happy with that.

“I would have loved to have won the game but I’m sure Steve Bruce would say the same thing.”
