CHARLTON were held to a scoreless draw by Hull City at The Valley this afternoon.
Matt Taylor was injured in the warm up so his place on the bench was taken by Dorian Dervite, the only change from Tuesday’s 2-1 victory over Leicester.
Nick Proschwitz’s third minute shot from long range was spilled by Ben Hamer but he gathered at the second attempt.
Bradley Pritchard’s fifth minute effort was well blocked by Abdoulaye Faye after the Addick had met Yann Kermorgant’s flick on.
Bradley Wright-Phillips’ scuffed shot was headed straight at Tigers keeper Ben Amos by skipper Johnnie Jackson on the quarter hour.
And Wright-Phillips shot tamely at Amos four minutes after meeting a great pass from Danny Hollands.
Leon Cort made a vital tackle to deny Sone Aluko a shot at goal while Wright-Phillips was again denied by Amos at the other end.
Corry Evans went to ground in the box under a committed 23rd minute challenge by Cort but was quickly on his feet and there were no protests for a penalty.
Aluko came close to breaking the deadlock on 29 minutes when he was put through on goal by Evans but his shot from just inside the area was well saved by Ben Hamer.
Charlton won a series of corners before Cort headed agonisingly over from a Pritchard cross and then Kermorgant fired straight at Amos after being picked out by Jackson.
Another dangerous corner from Dale Stephens was put behind and then Cort headed just over again from the resultant corner.
Kermorgant had a 49th minute effort ruled out for offside after Wright-Phillips had initially been denied by Amos, with Wright-Phillips being the man initially offside.
Michael Morrison cleared the danger after Proschwitz had capitalised on a mistake by Cort, although the state of the pitch following the downpour hardly helped the defender.
Proscwitz’s 51st minute shot from 20 yards was comfortably dealt with by Hamer as lightening and heavy rain deluged The Valley.
Michael Morrison was unlucky not to connect with Stephens’ free-kick, only the alertness of substitute Paul McShane preventing what would have been a certain goal.
Aluko twice went close, first by just failing to get on the end of a Koren volley fired into the box Robert Koren’s volley just failed to find Aluko, who was then denied by a timely challenge from Cort minutes later.
Substitute Jay Simpson should have won it in the 85th minute after being picked out by Aluko but instead fired inches wide of the post as Charlton escaped.
And they almost snatched all three points in the 89th minute but Hamer pulled off a great double stop, first denying Simpson and then Aluko.
