MILLWALL recorded their first victory of the 2012/2013 Championship campaign just three days after their opening day defeat to Blackpool, putting in a classy performance to secure the three points in a 2-1 success at Peterborough.

Despite going behind to George Boyd's 14th minute opener, the Lions fought back to win thanks to goals from Scott Malone and Darius Henderson.

Manager Kenny Jackett said: “It was a good win, it’s nice after Saturday that we had a game in a only a few days time and took our first win of the season.

“It should give the players and the crowds some confidence.

“We can do well this season.”

The visitors looked confident and in control from the outset and were unfortunate to find themselves behind after 14 minutes as Boyd opened the scoring for Posh with a ferocious shot across goal that beat Maik Taylor to the bottom corner.

Malone levelled for the Lions just before half-time.

The summer signing from Bournemouth returned to left back after playing left midfield against Blackpool on Saturday and grabbed his first goal for the Lions by side -ooting Alan Dunne’s cross home.

“Scott is capable of playing in both positions,” said Jackett.

“At 21 he is an interesting acquisition for us and it will be good to see him this season and how he develops.”

The Lions took the lead on the 64th minute through Henderson after a superb counter attack saw the partnership of Andy Keogh at its most effective as the 30-year-old composed himself before firing home.

On the partnership, Jackett said: “We tried hard last season to get both players out on the pitch at the same time.

“It didn’t quite happen and Harry Kane came in and formed a very good partnership with Keogh while Henderson was out.

“There was one, maybe two games where I played all three of them.

“Now the two lads need to focus and work together as a partnership and I do believe that they are capable of scoring goals.”

Millwall take on Sheffield Wednesday this Saturday at Hillsborough looking to build on last night’s three points and the Lions boss is full of confidence ahead of the match.

He said “I’m really looking forward to the game, it will be a big game.

“We will see a fantastic atmosphere there.

“Sheffield are just back in the Championship and trying to make their mark again, so it’s a type of game we are in this league for and the type of atmosphere.

“The players and the crowd should have some confidence after tonight that we can go there and do well.”
