STEVE Kavanagh has stepped down from the board at Charlton Athletic but will remain at The Valley as chief executive.
Kavanagh becomes the third member of the board to leave their position this summer following the earlier departures of Peter Varney and Alex Newall.
Varney will be replaced as executive vice-chairman by Martin Prothero, who takes up the position next week, and chairman Michael Slater says the new man will spend time examining how things work before assessing whether there needs to be changes to how the club is run off the pitch.
The chairman explained: “Steve has simply tendered his resignation as a member of the board of directors - he was not asked to resign - and his resignation has been accepted by the other board members.
“The intention now is to allow incoming executive vice-chairman Martin Prothero time to analyse the management structure at the club before making recommendations as to the executive and senior management team going forward.”
