WE HAVE parted company with our fifth manager in 13 months following a toothless second half performance against Northampton.

It was yet another example of Millwall dominating the opening exchanges of the game only to be undone by their own stupidity in defence.

As was the case against Brighton, a team came to The Den looking for a draw but instead left with all the points.

As soon as Northampton scored, the game was over.

Millwall were never going to score and the half time team talk did little to reinvigorate them, in fact the second half display must go down as one of worst 45 minutes witnessed.

The confidence levels had simply drained out of the side like water through a sieve.

Whether you play park football or at a professional level, one thing you're taught as a defender is never let the ball bounce in the penalty area.

This basic rule must have eluded Ross who assumed strikers in this division don't know how to shoot on target.

Mind you, having been surrounded by a team which has only scored six goals all season there is perhaps some mitigating evidence in his defence.

Millwall's problems are too numerous to mention outside a 5,000-word dissertation but we are crying out for leadership.

We need a hard b'stard in the centre of the field to command, to lead and to kick 10-tonnes of excrement out of any visiting player who has the audacity to have the ball at his feet.

There is now a foreboding sense of doom we are in freefall down to League Two or perhaps worse and it's something your average Millwall fan is struggling to contemplate given the successes of previous years.

One way or another, the rot has to stop.
