Millwall 0 v 1 Northampton Town
Coca-Cola League One
MILWALL slumped to another narrow defeat at The Den as they again paid the price for not taking their chances.
Mitchell Cole put the visitors, nicknamed the Cobblers, ahead on the stroke of half time.
The striker lashed home after Maurice Ross fatally let a loose ball bounce in the area.
It was hard on a Millwall side who had come out fighting in the face of recent disappointments and at times early on swarmed all over the visitors.
And moments later The Lions had two chances in as many minutes to level but, as so often this season, they were off target.
First Marvin Elliot spun in the box before crashing in a screamer which had keeper Mark Bunn scrambling to clear.
Then Zak Whitbread headed Alan Dunne's corner down, Paul Robinson prodded towards goal but the ball was bundled away to safety.
Earlier chances had come and gone to Zoumana Bakayogo and Chris Zebroski, including one which struck the post, but each time the visiting defence were up to their task.
Early second-half chances fell to Dunne and Marvin Elliott before substitutes Poul Hubertz and Danny Senda combined well in a flowing move through the middle.
Hubertz fed Senda down the right but his powerful drive flew wide.
Fellow substitute Gavin Grant also went close from close range before, in the last minute, Ali Fuseini flashed one just wide from 25 yards.
