DARIUS Henderson and Liam Trotter were both on target as Millwall defeated Nottingham Forest at The Den.

Henderson gave the Lions an early seventh minute lead before Trotter struck late on to sink Steve McClaren's side.

Having made wholesale changes for the 1-0 midweek Carling Cup win at Plymouth, Kenny Jackett fielded his strongest XI by naming the exact same line-up which kicked off the campaign at Reading last week.

Henderson beat the offside trap in the opening minute but went to ground far too easily under a challenge and his penalty appeal was rightly ignored.

Chris Gunter's clearance prevented Paul Robinson from getting on the end of Hamer Bouazza's free-kick, although it was from James Henry's corner Millwall went in front when Henderson flicked it past Lee Camp.

Forest had skipper Luke Chambers to thank on 10 minutes when he cleared John Marquis' cross as Millwall threatened to double their advantage.

The visiting fans thought they had equalised four minutes later after Andy Reid's powerful 35 yard drive beat David Forde before hitting the side netting.

Camp was very alert to gather Bouazza's dangerous 28th cross and prevent James Henry from making any kind of connection with the delivery.

Forde should probably have caught Jonathan Greening's cross at the other end one minute later instead of opting to punch it clear, but fortunately nothing came of the Forest attack.

It should have been 2-0 on the half hour mark when only a vital clearance by George Boateng prevented Henderson from surely grabbing his second of the game.

From Bouazza's corner, Henderson headed just wide, while Henry volleyed wildly over moments later when unmarked in the area.

Joe Garner placed a header straight into Forde's hands five minutes before the break, while Lewis McGugan firing a free-kick over on the stroke of half-time.

James Henry went close with a long range shot, the final action of the first half, as Millwall deservedly went in at the midway point with their noses in front.

A promising spell of Millwall pressure eight minutes after the restart ended with Trotter firing wide from the edge of the area.

The visitors came agonisingly close to getting back on terms on 59 minutes when Robbie Findley hit the post with a low shot from inside the six-yard box.

Henderson made way for new signing Dany N'Guessan just after the hour, while Bouazza fired over seconds before Marquis was replaced by Jimmy Abdou.

Bouazza's 70th minute free-kick from 35 yards was delivered with real power and Camp appeared fortunate to make a save.

Millwall finally added a deserved second goal with 13 minutes remaining when an excellent cross from the right by sub N'Guessan was drilled home by Trotter at the far post.

Marcus Tudgay saw an ambitious 83rd minute effort sail harmlessly over Forde's bar, while Trotter shot straight at Camp at the opposite end.

N'Guessan sent in an inviting 87th minute which Tamika Mkandawire fired against the post as the Lions threatened to increase their score.

They almost did so in stoppage time as Henry's 30 yard free-kick went just over Camp's bar.

It mattered little as the three points were more than safe by this stage with Millwall's first league win of the season well and truly bagged.
