Millwall closed the gap on sixth-placed Leeds United to four points by beating their old foes 3-2 at The Den today.

Goals from James Henry and Liam Trotter put the Lions in command at the break.

Luciano Becchio gave Leeds hope by pulling one back early in the second half but Steve Morison struck Millwall's third after the hour, although the visitors grabbed a late consolation through Andrew O'Brien.

The Lions named an unchanged starting XI from last week's 1-0 win at Hull, although there was no place on the bench for Chris Hackett and Craig Eastmond.

Jimmy Abdou came back into the squad after his recovery from injury and Darren Purse was also named as one of the substitutes.

Robert Snodgrass had the first shot of the game in the second minute, although his low volley from 25 yards was always swinging wide of David Forde's post.

Henry's cross had to be headed away by Eric Lichaj at the last moment just as Morison was about to meet the delivery.

Jack Smith was ideally placed to head away Snodgrass's ninth minute cross as he broke into the area.

Morison should have done better on the quarter hour when Andrew O'Brien gifted the Lions striker possession and he ran into the box before he was tackled by a Leeds defender.

Millwall took the lead on 24 minutes after they were awarded a free-kick just outside of the area for a foul by Jonathan Howson on Kevin Lisbie.

Henry stepped up to smash the free-kick beyond the reach of Kasper Schmeichel to send the home fans into ecstasy.

And they were even more ecstatic six minutes later when Trotter was ideally placed in the six-yard box to tap home after meeting Andros Townsend's corner.

Snodgrass tried to make an instant response but his low shot was easily dealt with by Forde, before the Lions were forced into an early substitution as injury meant Lisbie made way for Neil Harris.

Harris almost mad an instant contribution by heading over from Henry's 35th minute free-kick but Leeds should have pulled one back when Max Gradel's low cross picked out Becchio but his goal-bound shot was deflected behind by Tony Craig.

But the Lions went in with a well-deserved two-goal cushion at the break, with Leeds seemingly up against it.

Simon Grayson made one change at the start of the second half, withdrawing Snodgrass and throwing on Davide Somma.

And the visitors were right back in it within six minutes of the restart as Lichaj's cross was met by Somma, who applied the slightest of touches to play the ball into the path of Becchio and he simply couldn't miss from close range.

Morison was unfortunate not to restore the two-goal cushion when his 54th minute shot was put behind for a corner.

Gradel drilled a low shot straight at Forde three minutes later as Leeds went in search of an equaliser, while Henry's cross came within inches of meeting Morison's head on the hour as the game went from end-to-end.

But Millwall's nerves were eased on 62 minutes when Henry's shot was deflected but only into the path of Morison, who coolly lifted his shot over Schmeichel to make it 3-1.

Henry drilled a low shot across the face of goal midway through the half as the hosts looked to punish the visitors even further.

Harris really should have done just that 10 minutes from time when Henry's inviting delivery was placed over the bar by the veteran Millwall striker from six yards.

Henry was clearly full of confidence and forced Schmeichel to get down low in order to keep out his 84th minute 30-yard free-kick.

Harris somehow headed over from Townsend's cross 60 seconds later when it looked easier to find the target.

There was still time for O'Brien to pull one back with virtually the last kick of the game but the game was more than safe by this stage and the party had already begun in the home stands with that Wembley dream still very much on.
