ALAN McLeary has left the coaching staff at The Den.

Macca, who had a testimonial match against Charlton on July 22, made a total of 413 senior appearances for The Lions in two spells between 1982-92 and 1996-98, before being appointed assistant manager and then joint-manager alongside Keith Stevens from 1998-2000.

He has subsequently coached Millwall's under-18 and reserve sides.

Following the appointment of a new management team in Nigel Spackman and Willie Donachie, and a restructuring of the academy, with Joe Little becoming academy manager, all the coaching positions are now filled.

Richard Shaw will oversee the reserve side, combining the role with his playing duties, while Joe Little becomes under-18 coach and Les Briley takes charge of the under-16 side.

The departure of Macca signals the end of an era and new football club chairman Stewart Till paid tribute to him.

He said: "We own Alan a huge debt of thanks for all his hard work over a very long period.

"He was a fine player, very intelligent, who always seemed to have time on the ball, and played his part in helping Millwall win promotion to the top flight in 1988.

"Then, along with Keith Stevens, he helped bring through an exciting crop of young players and took the club to a Wembley Final in 1999."

He added: "He has continued to work with our young players here and I wish him every success in his future career.

"I am confident his experience at Millwall will stand him in good stead."

Alan McLeary said: "Naturally I am sad to be leaving the club I supported as a boy and with whom I have been associated for the best part of 20 years overall.

"I have enjoyed some great times at Millwall and have worked with some very good people.

"I would like to thank the fans for their support and I was glad to see many of them at The Den one last time for my testimonial."

He added: "I am now looking forward to a new challenge and I am confident I have a great deal to offer another club in a coaching or managerial role."
