KEITH McKay, co-editor of the Millwall fanzine No One Likes Us, give the fans' view If ever proof was required this Millwall side has a long way to go before we can call it a team, it came on Saturday.

There is never any excuse for a 5-1 defeat at this level, no matter how many injuries or how few games the players have had together.

At least Spackman seemed equally as furious with the result as we all were when he said "I felt some of them didn't give 100 per cent for the cause today."

He's certainly got some tough choices ahead, choices which include whether to stick with the underperformers like Whitbread, McInnes and Craig.

I expected a stuttering start to the season but admittedly this is far worse than I anticipated.

The key thing now is whether the players respond and show enough character on Saturday against Oldham.

Some have shown potentially they have a bright future ahead of them with Morais, Brighton and the injured Byfield being the pick of the bunch.

This heavy defeat has placed a lot of undue pressure on Spackman's side at such an early stage of the season.

Most Millwall fans were prepared to give the side the benefit of the doubt and allow the manager to build this collection of individuals into something resembling a unit.

However with Saturday's result the seeds of doubt have already been planted and it's makes the visit of Oldham to The Den this weekend all the more important.

Somebody remarked to me the other day it "wouldn't it be nice for Millwall to take a convincing lead into half time so we can actually enjoy a game of football for a change."

Therein lies the problem.

Unfortunately for Spackman he has inherited so much baggage in taking on Millwall whose fanbase have been shorn of confidence over the last year.

It's sad we're already talking about must win' games just four matches into the season but this is the reality after last year's horrors together with this faltering opening week.

A win of any description will be just the tonic required to lift the place once more but above all we want to see the passion out there on the pitch.

For expert analysis on all things Millwall don't forget to pick up your copy of No One Likes Us' magazine which is out this Saturday.

It's available from locations around The Den from 1pm or via subscription at noluthemag@hotmail.co.uk.
