FORMER Charlton striker Luke Varney isn’t likely to make a return to the club, according to Addicks boss Phil Parkinson.
The 27-year-old Derby forward had made his way back into the Rams' first-team plans this season after over a year of loan spells and reserve team football.
But while Parky admits to making an enquiry about Varney during the pre-season, he was sceptical of him being one of the remaining additions to the Charlton squad before August 31.
Parkinson said: “Luke’s a player we have enquired about over the summer, but we’ve enquired about 30 or 40 strikers.
“We’re constantly searching and ringing managers up to see who’s available, so there’s certainly no concrete truth there.”
Parky nonetheless hopes to find an adequate addition to the side who’ve earned seven points from nine thus far in League One, going on to add: “We need a couple more players.
“Finances are very tight but myself and Richard Murray are working very hard towards getting the maximum possible out of the money we’ve got left in the budget to improve our options.”
