JONATHAN Fortune is unlikely to earn a deal with Charlton, according to manager Phil Parkinson.

The central defender has been training with his former club since being released by Sheffield United in the summer and played in this week’s reserve match with Spurs.

However, although not completely ruling out the possibility Fortune may yet win a contract in SE7, the Addicks chief conceded the odds were against it.

Parkinson explained: “Jon is working hard and training with us.

“He and his agent asked me right at the start of the pre-season if he could come in and do a pre-season.

“Jon is a great friend of everybody here and of the club and is very highly regarded.

“We are trying to push him hard to get him back to where he should be because he is only 29.

“He played against Tottenham here in midweek in a very competitive game which he came through well.

“We’ve told Jon what our position is and he is using it very much as a tool to get himself fit and ready to get a contract either here or somewhere else.

“The likelihood is it might be somewhere else.”
