THERE have been no shortage of trialists at The Valley this summer and boss Phil Parkinson has dropped a hint one may feature against Bournemouth on Saturday.

Some have already moved on after failing to land deals but several remain and Parky says one unnamed individual could be involved this weekend.

He explained: “We’ve got a few still left and one might be on the bench on Saturday. We’ve brought a striker in from Holland to have a look at him and we will continue to do that because like I said, that is the area we need to improve on.

“We haven’t got a great deal of money to do that and the deals we are trying to get in place at the minute are ones we are finding very difficult to get over the finishing line, so we are looking at other options.

“I think we’ve got to do that.”

Parkinson added he wouldn’t be rushed into making any signings, even though Charlton are still short on bodies ahead of the big kick-off against the Cherries.

He said: “People talk about a hangover from the play-offs but hardly any of the players are left, so we’ve certainly got a freshness and the appetite at the training ground has been fantastic.

“I’m pleased with the ones we’ve brought in. Simon Francis, McCormack and players of that ilk have got a lot of experience at this level and are good players.

“There are loads of players out there and I think there is something like two or three hundred players out of contract in the summer.”

Parkinson added: “I could easily have filled this squad up with another five or six players but it is important I get players who are good enough to wear the Charlton shirt.

“The easy option would be to get the mediocre players in, be sat here with a squad of 22 or 23 players and think the job is done, this is where we are.

“But we don’t want to do that, we want to try and get players who we feel can make a difference and help us achieve what we want to do.

“That is why we’ve had to be patient and we are going to continue to be patient until we get the players we want.”
