KENNY Jackett has conceded it now looks unlikely Arsenal striker Jay Simpson will be returning to The Den.
The 21-year-old spent a period on loan with Millwall during Jackett’s first season in charge in 2007-08 and has attracted interest from a host of Championship clubs this summer, including the Lions.
However, despite expressing an earlier interest in the player, Jackett revealed today the chances of doing a deal look extremely slim.
The Millwall manager said: “It doesn’t seem like it, no.
“We did make an enquiry about a month ago but it has all been very quiet since then.
“I’ve had no contact with Arsenal in recent weeks.”
Jackett has already drafted in Kevin Lisbie and James Henry this week but added this wasn’t the end of Millwall’s transfer dealings before the window closes at the end of next month.
He said: “I’m hopeful there will be more signings.
“I wouldn’t say I have one or two really imminent but in areas such as creativity and scoring, I think we could step forward again.”
