Millwall have signed striker Kevin Lisbie on a season long loan from fellow Championship side Ipswich.
Lisbie has been training with Ipswich's youth team after falling out of favour with Roy Keane and admits he can't wait to make the most of the opportunity presented to him by Kenny Jackett.
He told News Shopper: “I’m very pleased to have signed and be back playing again.
“I’ve missed a couple of days training because we have been sorting this out, but I’m eager to get back into it and play on Saturday against Hearts.”
The 31-year-old is returning to London for the first time since leaving Charlton in 2007.
Having been brought up in Hackney, Lisbie is glad to be moving closer to his family once again.
He said: “I have got quite a big family, so I try to keep as close as possible to London and it’s a perfect move for me really.”
There will also be a familiar face on the training ground tomorrow when Lisbie meets up with Millwall’s squad for the first time in former Ipswich team-mate Liam Trotter.
“I know Liam from his time at Ipswich, so it will be good to link up with him again,” he added.
Having faced the Lions last season during a successful loan spell at Colchester, Lisbie is certainly no stranger to his new colleagues.
He said: “Maybe if I hadn’t gone to Colchester last year then I wouldn’t have got this opportunity to play back in the Championship, so it has all worked out well for me.
“I also played against the rest of the Millwall lads before, so I’m familiar with them all and looking forward to training tomorrow.”
With Shaun Batt out injured following a collision in the Lions’ pre-season game against AFC Wimbledon, Lisbie will help bolster Jackett’s attacking options.
The former Charlton ace knows there is competition for a starting place but feels he has what it takes to work his way into Jackett’s plans.
Lisbie said: “I wouldn’t have come here if I wasn’t confident I could work my way into the manager’s plans.
“I know I’m not guaranteed a place but I feel if I work hard and get myself ready, then there is no reason why I shouldn’t be playing.”
