PHIL Parkinson admitted the chances of Grant Basey or David Mooney returning to Charlton are slim after watching his side lose 1-0 to Barnet.
Valley Gold product Basey has been playing on trial for SPL club Aberdeen over the last fortnight, while Huddersfield have emerged as the favourites to sign Irishman Mooney from Reading despite his loan spell at SE7 last season.
On the chances of either man playing for the Addicks again, Parky was pessimistic, stating: “There’s no plans to bring back Dave at the moment.
“We haven’t offered Grant a contract at this particular moment and there are reasons for that so Aberdeen wanted to look at him and he goes with our best wishes.
“He’s up there at the moment and I think he’s going to play for them this week and we’ll see how that goes.”
On the friendly defeat at the hands of the Bees, Parkinson added: “We were sluggish today.
“It was a typical slow pre-season game and Barnet were very well organised.
“They sat back and made it difficult for us and we never really played quick enough on the ball to break them down so I am disappointed but we’ve got to learn from that.
“Obviously it was our first 90 minutes under our belts but the eleven we had out there know we can do better and play a bit quicker and more accurately and be more of a threat going forward which we probably lacked at times today.
“But there were also highlights and we know what we need to do to improve the squad in the next two weeks before the start of the season.”
It took the Addicks almost an hour and a goal conceded to finally find their flow after Glenn Poole had put Barnet ahead from Mark Byrne’s low centre on 55 minutes.
But despite coming close to equalising via efforts from Kyel Reid and triallist Gunner Thorvaldsson, a virtually full strength Charlton side nonetheless looked one that will need more than a fortnight to fully prepare for the League One campaign to begin.
Adding to Parky’s woes, Alan McCormack and Kyel Reid both came off injured, though the Charlton boss revealed that neither were anything more serious than a precautionary measure.
He explained: “McCormack just got a whack and his vision went so obviously precaution-wise we brought him off.
“Reid got a stamp on his wrist so we’ll just see how that is on the coach back but I don’t think it’ll be too bad.”
