MILLWALL striker Steve Morison paid tribute to manager Kenny Jackett following the Lions’ promotion to the Championship following victory over Swindon at Wembley.
The 26-year-old played a key role in the side’s promotion charge, netting twenty goals in 43 appearances.
And after a hard-working performance in the Lions’ promotion-sealing 1-0 victory, Morison admitted the players were playing just as much for their manager as they were for themselves.
He said: “It’s a fantastic achievement for Kenny.
“We wanted to do it for him as much as for ourselves, he’s given me my second crack and helped me massively this year and I can’t thank him enough.”
On the final itself, Morison added: “We never thought about losing today.”
“We’ve lost a few times before in the play-offs but we won today so all those memories are forgotten now.
“I think the people could see the calmness in the lads today and it was just a matter of time until we scored and then we just hoped we could keep the ball out of our net, which we managed to do.
Morison was also full of praise for the players who were at the club last season when they fell at the last hurdle to Scunthorpe United.
He continued: “The lads have been fantastic. They haven’t really mentioned what happened last year but I think we’re a better side than we were last year and we showed that we’re the third best team in the league by going up.
“I started a bit slow, but kicked on just before Christmas and what a way to cap it off.”
While slightly disappointed he couldn’t get himself on the scoresheet, Morison now has all eyes on putting away another twenty for the Lions in the second tier of English football.
He said: “I always fancied myself, personally, whenever I was one-on-one with the keeper or the centre-halves, it wasn’t meant to be for me but it was meant to be for the team.
“I had a few chances, I wouldn’t say many of them were ones where you should have scored, but I created a few myself.
“It was a good day so I don’t care that I didn’t score, we’re in the Championship now.
We’re a good bunch of lads and we work very hard for each other and I don’t think any team will fancy coming to The Den next season; Derby came here and they didn’t do too great.
“I wanted to come to League One, and as long as you can do it in League One then the next step’s the Championship.”
