DANNY Murphy has crossed the River Thames to join Tottenham Hotspur for a deal thought to be worth £2m.

The 28-year-old had been at the centre of transfer speculation for many weeks although Addicks boss Alan Curbishley always denied the former Liverpool midfielder was leaving The Valley.

However, after the transfer was completed, Murphy told the Spurs website: "Spurs has always been a club which has attracted me but whereas previously things didn't work out, this time they have and I am absolutely delighted.

"I am looking forward to playing my part in the team Martin Jol is building."

Spurs sporting director Damien Comolli added: "Danny is an experienced player who is used to playing at the highest level.

"He has a fantastic ability to create chances and we are delighted we have been able to bring him to the club."

Murphy joined Charlton in August 2004 and became a favourite with the fans after turning in spell-binding performances in midfield.

However, after 64 appearances and 10 goals inthe red of Charlton, he became unsettled and his absence from the team only added fuel to the speculation surrounding his future.
