CHARLTON Athletic prepared for their FA Cup tie against Leyton Orient with a confidence boosting point at Stamford Bridge.

New-boy Marcus Bent scored the goal which deprived runaway Premiership leaders Chelsea of their first points at home this season.

Alan Curbishley said: "We were a little tentative in the first half but we worked as hard as we could.

"At half-time we were 1-0 down to a soft set-play but all I asked of them was to carry on working."

He added: "I also wanted a little bit more composure on the break when we got into good positions and I think we did this for our goal."

Curbishley was also full of praise for substitute Marcus Bent saying: "He demonstrated he is a Charlton player.

"He got the goal and then he was chasing back and filling in. Perhaps it is a little bit of what we have missed in recent weeks."

Bent, 27, signed for the Addicks last week for an initial £2 million which could rise to £2.5 million.

Curbishley is a long-term admirer of Bent and moved for him after the sale of Jason Euell to Birmingham City seemed imminent.
