ADDICKS boss Alan Curbishley said he was relieved after his side earned a 4-2 FA Cup win at Sheffield Wednesday.
He said: "When you've lost four on the spin away from home and you look at this tie, it was a really tricky one.
"Sheffield Wednesday have won two games on the trot so they were full of confidence.
"It was always going to be a difficult day but I think we made it a bit difficult in the second half and at 3-2 it could have gone either way."
He added: "We were expecting what happened in the second half with lots of balls coming in our box and us having to deal with them. But we got through and that's the main thing."
The potential banana-skin was avoided thanks to a double strike by Dennis Rommedhal and goals from Matt Holland and Darren Bent.
Curbishley said: "Dealing with set pieces is something we have to work hard on in training next week as it's a major part of the game now.
"To be honest we've been not too bad at set pieces but we've been hurt in the last week with two against Everton and two today."
Their reward for overcoming the Championship strugglers is a visit from Leyton Orient.
The Os are currently fourth in League Two but it will not be an easy tie even though Charlton have home advantage.
In the last round Orient produced one of the biggest shocks of the weekend beating Premiership Fulham at Craven Cottage 2-1.
Orient took 5,000 fans to the match and so there should be a cracking atmosphere at The Valley when the teams meet on January 28.
