CHARLTON will play League Two giantkillers Leyton Orient in the fourth round of the FA Cup. Orient beat Premiership Fulham in the third round and will fancy their chances at The Valley on the weekend of January 28. DEFENDER Gonzalo Sorondo will miss the next six to eight weeks after sustaining a fractured foot following Cesc Fabregas' late tackle in the Boxing Day clash against Arsenal. The Uruguayan has played just two matches this season due to suspension and injury. Alan Curbishley said: "Sorondo is going to be out and it's something we're very unhappy about." Meanwhile, Manchester United have confirmed they have no plans to recall on-loan defender Jonathan Spector during the January transfer window.
ALAN Curbishley has reassured fans there is no truth in the continuing speculation regarding the future of Danny Murphy who has been linked with a move to either Newcastle United or Manchester City in the January transfer window. Curbishley said: "There's nothing in the stories. I've spoken to Danny and he'll confirm he's as miffed as me." Murphy missed the Sheffield Wednesday match with a slight hamstring injury.
FOUR Charlton fans will stand for the post of the elected supporters' director later this month, with the club's other 15,000 adult season-ticket holders deciding who will represent them for the next two years. Current elected fans' director Sue Townsend joins former stadium announcer Brian Cole, Bromley supporters' club organiser Ben Hayes and Vince Nieszwiec, who represented Charlton on ITV's fans' parliament, in the race to the Valley boardroom. FANS will still be able to take advantage of a matchday bar at The Valley despite the closure of Floyd's. The turn of the year saw the start of a two-month project to transform the bar into a restaurant but the bar will still be open for fans at home matches.
TALAL El Karkouri set off for the African Nations Cup last Friday and may not return to Charlton until February 10 should Morocco reach the competition finals. EIGHTEEN-year-old striker James Walker has now played twice in the Football League after joining League One side Hartlepool United on loan. Walker made his debut as a second-half substitute in a 1-1 draw with Swindon Town on January 2 and then featured for the final 27 minutes of Pools' 2-0 defeat to Yeovil Town on Saturday. Elsewhere, the loan of Mark Ricketts, an unused sub for Milton Keynes Dons as they lost 4-3 to Southampton in the FA Cup at the weekend, has been extended for a third month.
FA WOMEN'S Cup holders Charlton return to action after a five-week break with a trip to Bristol City in the fourth round. Meanwhile, 19-year-old striker Sarah Snare last week celebrated her first senior England call-up for a training camp in Spain later this month. She will join Casey Stoney, Katie Chapman, Josanne Potter, Eniola Aluko and Amanda Barr in La Manga from January 16.
THE next phase of exploratory works ahead of a second tier on the east stand will begin this month when a major soil investigation is carried out underneath the stand. A series of rigs will be erected from next Monday following the Birmingham City home match.
