Aston Villa 1 v 0 Charlton Athletic
Barclays Premiership
ADDICKS boss Alan Curbishley was left disappointed after witnessing his team slump to their fourth consecutive league defeat.
A second half strike from Northern Ireland international Steve Davis was enough to continue Charlton's freefall down the Premiership table which has seen them drop from second to 11th.
Curbishley said: "I expected a bit more from the team. We are an experienced side and I am sure the fans want to see better.
"But we look forward to Wednesday night and need the fans to get behind us and help us stop this run.
"The trick is to do what Villa have done which is get two wins on the spin."
A couple of wayward strikes from lone hitman Darren Bent was all Charlton had to show for their afternoon's work on a day when Danny Murphy was rested on the subs bench, Dennis Rommedhal was left out of the squad altogether and Matt Holland and Kevin Lisbie returned to the fray.
There was a hint of controversy over the goal as Stephan Andersen appeared to be obstructed by Villa's Kevin Phillips in the build up.
Curbishley said: "Philips used experience to block Stephan off but he should still have got to the cross.
"I have no complaints about it or the result. If you don't create chances you don't deserve anything.
"We had some players who didn't turn up."
