AKPO Sodje admitted he wants to turn his loan deal from Sheffield Wednesday into a permanent contract at the end of the campaign.
The attacking half of Charlton's Sodje sibling duo netted the first goal of his second temporary spell at The Valley in the side’s 2-1 defeat at home to Brighton on Tuesday.
And although he and the rest of the side are more concerned with keeping their diminishing promotion hopes alive for the time being, the Greenwich-born Nigerian explained that the terms of his loan deal could make a long-term contract at SE7 a possibility once the season concludes.
He said: “I’d love to stay and there’s something on the table but I’m not really going to discuss a contract or anything, I’m going to focus on the next game and just keep myself going.
“I’ve been looking forward to scoring again as I’ve only scored two since I’ve been here but I’m not going to single myself out, I think everyone did average and we know we can do better.
“I don’t think the players were feeling any pressure, it was just the way we started the game.
“The team got it wrong and we didn’t start as strong as we started in the last game so we’ll make sure that next time we start the game at a higher level than we did against Brighton.
“Everyone’s gutted with the result. We tried to play better than we did in the last game but it didn’t work and the condition of the pitch didn’t help us.”
Adding insult to injury after the defeat was news that Norwich had once again snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, with fellow promotion rivals Leeds, Huddersfield, Swindon and Millwall all collecting three points apiece as well.
But Sodje maintained that the Addicks’ chances of returning to the Championship remained in their own hands, beginning with Friday night’s trip to Southend.
He added: “I’m not really bothered about anybody else.
“I’m always bothered about my team and as long as we get the right results then the other teams have nothing to do with us.
“Over the last couple of months we’ve not done that great but hopefully we’ll pick ourselves back up and get going again.
“We’re looking forward to the next game.
“This game has gone now and we didn’t get anything out of it but we’re looking forward to the Friday game and hopefully we will go away and get three points.”
