PHIL Parkinson says he will have to get rid of players before he can bring anyone else in on loan.
The Addicks boss is keen to snap up Elliot Omozusi until the end of the campaign but can’t offer the defender a deal until he loses some of his present squad.
Charlton’s precarious financial position has been underlined by the fact Parkinson was only able to bring back Akpo Sodje from Sheffield Wednesday believing Yassin Moutaouakil or Chris Dickson would go.
That failed to happen and the Valley chief is still desperate to offload the duo.
Parkinson said: “There are certainly no incoming players at the moment.
“We need a couple to go out possibly, which we thought would have happened and then right at the death of the deadline it didn’t happen.
“If somebody goes then hopefully there could be room for us to take Elliot until the end of the season. That’s what I’m waiting to happen.
“We needed to finance the Akpo Sodje deal coming in.
“Things are very tight financially. Izale McLeod goes and Dave Mooney comes in, Dean Sinclair goes and Kyel Reid comes in and it is very much like that.
“We’ve taken Akpo and sometimes clubs who said they were going to take one of your players pull out at the last minute.”
He added: “That’s what really happened on the deadline day but there is a possibility one, maybe two, could go.
“There are players like Yassin and Chris Dickson who a couple of clubs have expressed an interest in.
“Really we are waiting for that interest to be firmed up but we need to recoup some money back.
“Swansea were the main club who expressed an interest in Yassin and their indication was they would come in with an offer to take him.
“That didn’t materialise unfortunately for us and the player.
“I don’t think any deal is ever dead but Swansea certainly didn’t take anybody else.
“They were probably waiting for someone to go or for some movement, I don’t know.
“It is like a chain reaction and it didn’t happen. There has been no contact from Swansea since.”
Several fans on Charlton internet forums have urged Parkinson to play Moutaouakil so he can get some first team action and put himself in the shop window.
However, the manager flatly rejected the suggestion when asked today.
He said: “They are entitled to their opinion but I think it would be difficult to move Frazer Richardson out of the team at the moment.
“Just because you are paying somebody a wage, that doesn’t mean you have to play them.
“Unfortunately only 11 players can play.”
