PHIL Parkinson believes Charlton can take the psychological advantage of Miguel Llera’s dramatic 90th minute Boxing Day equaliser against Swindon with them into Saturday’s return fixture at the County Ground.
The Addicks defied the odds after Sam Sodje and Deon Burton were sent off to recover an unlikely point against their promotion rivals and the boss is backing his side to give Swindon more problems this weekend.
Parkinson said: “Swindon have been playing well recently and are one of the form teams in the league.
“They started the game quick against Leeds a couple of weeks ago and the front two are playing well.
“We’ve got to make sure we are strong defensively and stay right in the game.
“They are a good side, we respect them but equally I don’t think we did too badly against them at home, so we are confident we can go and give a good account of ourselves.
“The way we played in the home game, and the chances we created even with nine men, shows if we are right at the races like we were against Walsall, we will cause Swindon problems defensively.”
Charlton have looked edgy in their recent home games after coming in for criticism from home fans, although Parkinson wants to have proved something by the time they return to SE7 against Yeovil on February 20.
He added: “The boys played with more freedom against Walsall on a very difficult surface, but it is up to make sure next time we go back to The Valley, we go there with some points picked up from these next two away games.
“If we do that, the mood will have changed slightly I’m sure.”
