THE current uncertainty about the future ownership of Charlton means the Addicks have had to put their interest in Plymouth winger Jason Puncheon on ice.

Manager Phil Parkinson admitted Puncheon had been a target but ruled out any immediate swoop and also acknowledged the takeover had put a major dent in his recruitment plans this summer.

He said: “Jason is a player we have spoken to but it is another scenario where at the moment we are not in a position to progress on that one.

“Obviously for various reasons my hands have been tied and I would like to think all of the supporters understand that reading in between the lines so to speak, because obviously we’ve been limited in what we can say or what I have been able to say.

“In terms of our recruitment we are behind where we want to be and there is no question about that.

“Unfortunately, certain things are taken out of your control as a manager and you can just deal with the hand that you’ve been given. That’s what we’ve done.”

However, it wasn’t all doom and gloom according to the boss.

He added: “There are some positives because we could be sat here having sold three or four key players but we haven’t done that.

“I said at the end of the season the aim was to keep as many players as we’ve got and add to it with quality.

“Now we’ve kept as many as possible apart from Mark Hudson, we probably haven’t added as many as would have liked at this stage but that will happen.

“I’m sure the supporters know like I do the areas which need strengthening, but like I say the ones we’ve got have been excellent.”
