PHIL Parkinson has rubbished a national newspaper story which claimed Jonjo Shelvey had rejected a move to Chelsea.
The article suggested the highly-rated 17-year-old had snubbed the Blues because his preferred move was a switch to West Ham.
However, Parkinson completely refuted the Chelsea link and also pointed out no Premiership side – including the Hammers – has made a bid yet.
When asked if Chelsea had made an approach, the Charlton boss replied: “As far as I know there has been nothing at all and as far as him turning down a move, someone has just put that in the paper as speculation.
“I happen to feel anyway Jonjo is the type of lad who wants to play football.
“He loves playing first team football, he has had a taste of it and to go to a club where he is clearly going to be a long way down the pecking order is something I’m not sure would suit him.
“But that is irrelevant to the Chelsea story because I don’t know where that came from.”
He added: “There has been no concrete interest to me from other managers - nobody has rang up.
“Obviously when you speak to other managers they ask you about players and they have asked about him, but nobody has backed that up with a firm bid.”
