NICKY Bailey has been unveiled as Charlton’s new skipper for the forthcoming campaign.
The midfield ace only joined the Addicks from Southend last summer but his impressive displays and leadership qualities have impressed Phil Parkinson, who told Bailey the good news yesterday.
Parky said: “Nicky Bailey is going to be the captain.
“I had a chat with him yesterday and I think he is the type of player who leads by example on the pitch.
“He is a winner, he is a leader and that is what I want spreading through the club.”
The Addicks boss also revealed there had been competition for the role following Mark Hudson’s departure to Cardiff during the summer.
He said: “Frazer Richardson was the captain of Leeds for a while and you’ve got Christian Dailly who has come in and is a captain, but I felt with what Nicky did last year he deserved the armband.
“I’m sure he will do it justice and I said to him it is a great honour to be the captain of a club this size with all of the history.
“If someone had ssaid to him two or three years ago when he was at Barnet that he would now be the captain of Charlton then he probably wouldn’t have believed it.”
