CHARLTON and Welling kicked off their respective campaigns with a 1-1 stalemate at Park View Road this evening.

The Addicks' first half XI had the best of the opening 30 minutes and they should have taken the lead when Chris Solly's cross found the head of Yado Mambo.

However, the goal was controversially disallowed for an alleged foul in the box.

Minutes later, Welling midfielder Ryan Johnson bravely blocked a Lloyd Sam drive and Wings keeper Charlie Mitten reacted quickly to save superbly at point blank range from Chris Dickson.

But the hosts ended the half on top with winger Ben Greenhague Charlton's chief tormentor and he came closest to giving the Wings a shock lead.

The Addicks finally broke the deadlock five minutes after the break when Jose Semedo's lobbed pass found Scott Wagstaff, who brilliantly got past his marker before blasting home from a tight angle.

However, the lead lasted only five minutes as substitute Sam Hurrell escaped the crowd in the box to tap home a low cross beyond Darren Randolph from two yards.
