MILLWALL boss Kenny Jackett has played down suggestions he is about to take a gamble on non-league striker Ben Wright.
Wright has already banged in 12 goals for the Blue Square South outfit this season, attracting plenty of interest from Football League sides.
Jackett was happy to confirm that interest extends to the Lions but was quick to add it was only minor at this stage.
He explained: “My chief scout Stuart Murdoch has watched him and has got some interest.
“I haven’t actually seen him myself but he is a young and promising player.
“Stuart knows the Hampton manager Alan Devonshire very well and there has been some interest in him.
“We may give him a run out in a trial game or a day or two training but to be fair, the interest is minimal.”
Jackett also added the Lions are expecting to complete the signing of Charlton striker Izale McLeod on loan.
He added: “We are hopeful of getting Izale McLeod on loan from Charlton. He has got a lot of pace along the front line and that is maybe what we have lacked.”
Millwall discovered last night they will face Hull City in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Saturday week following the Tigers’ 1-0 triumph at Newcastle.
However, Jackett is adamant this weekend’s Den clash with Tranmere is a much bigger priority for his side.
The manager said: “Hull is a great game to look forward to but my thoughts are really on the Tranmere game at the moment because it is much more important.
“When Hull comes along, I want to win and it will be a good day for everybody.
“They’ve made a fantastic start in their first ever year in the Premiership and to do what they’ve done is testament to everybody there.
“Tranmere are one of their competitors and are only seven points behind us in the table.
“They will be looking for a place in the play-offs and they have a realistic chance of making it as well.
“It will be very interesting to see how the game goes but it is a massive fixture for us and probably more important than the Crewe or Hull games.”
The Lions head into the Tranmere clash on the back of Tuesday evening’s 3-2 replay success at Tranmere, a game in which Neil Harris struck to become the club’s record scorer.
Jackett said: “We put in a good performance at Crewe and played well. It was the third time we had played each other in a matter of weeks and it never looked as if we cancelled each other out.
“It was an entertaining end-to-end game and I’m pleased to say we came out on top in the end.
“Neil broke the record and it was a big day for him with what I would call a striker’s goal.
“I’m pleased for Neil, he has been a terrific servant for Millwall and fully deserves the record.”
Millwall will be boosted by the return of Nadjim Abdou from injury for the Tranmere game, while Paul Robinson and Tony Craig are both available again after serving suspensions.
