Crystal Palace have completed the signing of Maxence Lacroix on a five-year deal from Wolfsburg.

The French defender has joined the Eagles for a fee in the region of £17 million, reuniting with former boss Oliver Glasner.

Lacroix, 24, made 130 appearances for Bundesliga side Wolfsburg during his four years in Germany.

Glasner oversaw the first year of Lacroix’s stint at Wolfsburg - securing Champions League football for just the third time in Die Wolfe’s history.

In agreement with Sporting Director Dougie Freedman, Palace’s Europa League-winning coach identified Lacroix as the club's priority centre-back target at the start of the window.

Last week, Palace sold centre-back Joachim Andersen to Fulham in a deal worth up to £30m, while Chadi Riad is sidelined with an MCL injury.

The 24-year-old - who will wear number five for Oliver Glasner's side - is Palace’s first addition on Deadline Day with three more signings in the pipeline.

Arriving in South London Lacroix said: “It’s like a dream for a young football player. I’m really happy to be here and arrive at this good team.

“I watched Palace’s last games and I was really happy for the coach, because I’d played under him before. I think it’s the right moment to move to the Premier League.”

Chairman Steve Parish added: “We have watched Maxence play at the very highest level of European football and we are delighted to be able to welcome him to Selhurst Park.

“He is another young, talented player to add to the club, and I am sure he will prove himself to be a valuable asset for Oliver and the squad.”
