Crystal Palace’s return to Selhurst Park saw the Eagles succumb to a toothless defeat at the hands of London rivals West Ham.
Chances galore in the first half, but the lack of a finisher meant Oliver Glasner’s side could not make an incision into the scoreline.
The absence of a clinician came back to bite the sloppy Crystal Palace side in the second half, with feeble defending confirming a second successive defeat for the South London club.
Here are our match ratings.
Dean Henderson - 5/10
Poor on the ball. His kicks rarely found red and blue shirts. Could not have stopped either goal.
Chadi Riad - 5/10
Mixed comes to mind. All over the place for both goals. Was decent in the air. Showed encouraging outballs at times. Needs some time to settle.
Marc Guehi - 6/10
Lead by example in the first half. Kept Michail Antonio quiet all afternoon - showing immense physicality. His fellow centre-backs failed to help him. Did not look out of place in the centre of the three.
Crystal Palace must keep hold of him.
Chris Richards - 4/10
Mohammed Kudus had the better of Richards on numerous occasions. Defensively he was poor and on the ball, he was even worse. Awful in duels and easily dribbled past. An afternoon to forget.
Tyrick Mitchell - 5.5/10
Solid for the most part. Did well in his duels, while making five recoveries.
However, the wing-back had a blip in the 67th minute when he was bullied off the ball in the build-up to West Ham’s opener.
Jefferson Lerma - 5/10
Failed to make an impact in midfield. Dubious in possession. An uninspiring showing.
Adam Wharton - 6/10
Passing was top-notch - played a wonderful ball through to Eberechi Eze, who could not put his effort past Areola. Was one of Crystal Palace’s better players. Rarely put a foot wrong.
Daniel Munoz - 6/10
Energetic. Defended well. Provided an offensive threat and made a great crossfield run to pressure Alphonse Areola. Lively.
Eberechi Eze - 6/10
Excellent in the first half, but neutralised in the second. Hit the bar. Often selfish and tried to run through players - seemed as if he did not trust the players around him.
Jean-Philippe Mateta - 4.5/10
Sprayed an excellent opportunity wide. Passing was good, but he failed to offer his offensive threat seen at the end of last season. The forward did not register a shot on goal.
Odsonne Edouard - 5.5/10
The mystery continues. Edouard possesses excellent movement and gets into great positions, but he lacks confidence. His first touch almost always got away from him and his shots were fruitless. Worked hard, but he epitomises Palace’s issues in front of goal.
Substitutes:
Daichi Kamada (63rd minute for Jefferson Lerma) - 4/10
Deployed out of position as a holding midfielder and was all over the place. Left a lot to be desired in the middle of the park as West Ham easily danced through Palace. Appeared to be lightweight and was incapable of delivering a penetrative cross.
Ismaila Sarr (71st minute for Jefferson Lerma) - 6/10
Tried to make an impact. Went close on a couple of occasions. Delivered an excellent cross towards Mateta - who failed to find the finish. Encouraging signs from the new boy.
Jeffrey Schlupp (82nd minute for Chris Richards) - N/A
Was thrown on as Palace sought a late flurry, but really and truly it was too late for the Ghanaian to make an impact.
