Millwall picked up a valuable point in a thrilling 2-2 draw against Luton as they maintained their place in the Championship play-off spots.

Goals from Zian Flemming and Tom Bradshaw put Millwall two goals up at Kenilworth Road, before Luton struck back through Elijah Adebayo and then Luke Berry equalised with three minutes left.

What were some of the talking points from last night’s game?

Millwall slightly fortunate with their goals

Flemming opened the scoring for Millwall in just the fourth minute and extended his stellar goal-scoring season. However, his goal was down to a mistake from Luton’s keeper Ethan Horvath, who could not hold onto the shot and it dribbled into the net.

Millwall used their good fortunate well to add a second goal, but this was lucky as well. While the goal was scored by Tom Bradshaw, it was assisted by George Honeyman, who appeared to be offside in the build-up.

This meant that even though a late goal is always disappointing to concede, both teams seemed to view a draw as a fair result.

Millwall and Luton to battle it out for the play-offs

The teams were evenly matched, which is consistent with both Millwall and Luton having 54 points after their 34 games. The teams also have the same goal difference which suggests the race for the play-offs will go all the way to the end of the season.

Norwich are just two points behind the team. They face stiff competition from the East Anglia side, who can never be discounted from the promotion race after spending the last few years as the perennial yoyo team between the Premier League and the Championship.

Millwall have very little experience of a sustained play-off hunt, so will be tested over the remaining fixtures this season, starting with a big game against Norwich on Saturday.

The Lions must not let the pressure get to them

After the game Millwall manager Gary Rowett said: “We end up dropping in and almost hoping the player doesn't score whereas we've got to be a bit more pro-active.”

This speaks of a tentativeness that Millwall cannot afford if they are going to turn this promising season into one of substance.

Millwall are in the position they are in because of their organisation and impressive defensive record, even though they have been without their captain and centre-back Shaun Hutchinson for much of the season.

They now have an opportunity to stake a claim for promotion.
