Crystal Palace have 16 league games left this season, and having struggled to find a post-World Cup spark, they need a strong finish to the season.

Palace are 12th with 25 points, seven points above the relegation zone and ten points below seventh, which earnt a place in the Europa Conference League last season. Their season is in the balance.

Predicting the Premier League is always a dangerous game. But it's also quite fun, so let’s give it a go and assess each remaining game to see how they might end up.

Brentford (a) – 18.02.2023

Prediction: 1-1

It would be hard to argue with history. Three previous Premier League meetings between the teams and three draws.

This would represent a really good result for the Eagles as Brentford are in good form and play particularly well at home.

Liverpool (h) – 25.02.2023

Prediction: 0-2 loss

Liverpool are not the force they were last season and are languishing in ninth. But they did show signs of some revival with a comfortable win in the Merseyside Derby and still hold European ambitions.

Palace used to be something of a bogey team for Liverpool, for example Luis Suarez famously being reduced to tears in 2014 as a 3-3 draw derailed their title challenge.

But since 2018, Liverpool have won seven games in a row at Selhurst Park.

Aston Villa (a) – 4.03.2023

Prediction: 2-2

Since Unai Emery took over at Villa Park, they have enjoyed an improvement in results. Two losses in a row, albeit one to a rampant Manchester City, suggests it may have been a new manager bounce.

Palace will have their work cut out, but expect them to get a good result away from home.

Manchester City (h) – 11.03.2023

Prediction: 0-2 loss

City recently restored their position at the top of the league and look closer to returning to their best this season. They have the talent and ruthlessness to take apart any team on their day and, even away from home, they can inflict a damaging loss on Palace.

The champions will see it as a tough trip away, however, and in the Premier League there is always a chance.

Brighton (a) – 16.03.2023

Prediction: 1-1

In the league’s most easily forgotten rivalry, a draw would be a fair result. Tensions will be high in this fierce game, but this result would mirror what happened at Selhurst Park in the return game.

Arsenal (a) – 19.03.2023

Prediction: 2-1 loss

When Arsenal opened the Premier League with a 2-0 win at Crystal Palace, many simply wrote it off as an easy test to start the season.

The Gunners have since launched their most serious title challenge for many years, and even with a brief dip in form they remain one of the best teams in the league. Under Mikel Arteta the Emirates Stadium has been transformed to provide one of the best atmospheres in the league, making a trip their a daunting task.

Leicester (h) – 1.04.2023

Prediction: 2-1 win

Leicester seem to have turned a corner this season and fears of relegation are slowly dissipating. The issues of the first half of the season, which include an ageing squad, still remain and results are inconsistent.

This is a good opportunity for Palace to get an important win and take some of the pressure off themselves.

Leeds (a) – 8.04.2023

Prediction: 2-2

A point at Elland Road is no mean feat, but as Leeds are still yet to replace Jesse Marsch, there could be significant turmoil for the rest of the season.

They have quality players and will be a hard team to beat no matter who they are managed by.

Southampton (a) – 15.04.2023

Prediction: 0-2 win

Another team currently struggling to find a new manager and they are almost certainly favourites for the drop. Palace must see this as a huge opportunity for victory, even at this early stage.

Everton (h) – 22.04.2023

Prediction: 1-0 win

Sean Dyche showed the potential this Everton side have in their win over Arsenal. But there is a reason they are in the relegation zone and without the passionate Goodison support, Palace should get the win.

Wolves (a) – 25.04.2023

Prediction: 2-1 loss

Teams around the bottom seem to be finding form at the most important time and under Julen Lopetegui they have three wins in their last five games.

A trip to face Wolves is therefore a much harder prospect than it was earlier in the season.

They are more of a threat than they were under Bruno Lage and will give the Eagles a tough time. The only thing in Palace’s favour is it is a midweek game which seems to produce weird results more often.

West Ham (h) – 29.04.2023

Prediction: 1-1

West Ham are another inconsistent side and while they will have more than enough to stay in the league, they will not relish a trip to Crystal Palace.

Tottenham (a) – 6.05.2023

Prediction: 3-1 loss

Trying to predict this Spurs team is almost impossible and the result will depend entirely on what team Crystal Palace come up against. Prior to Spurs smashing Palace 4-0 in exhilarating fashion earlier in the season, they had been beaten by Aston Villa and held by Brentford.

Bournemouth (h) – 13.05.2023

Prediction: 2-0 win

Bournemouth are another interesting team and have enjoyed mixed results. If Crystal Palace want to end the season well then they must beat Bournemouth at home.

Fulham (a) – 20.05.2023

Prediction: 3-1 loss

Fulham have been very impressive this season and look a real force under Marco Silva. If they replicate the form they have shown throughout the season then they may have too much for Palace, especially if Alexander Mitrovic is fully fit.

Nottingham Forest (h) – 28.05.2023

Prediction: 3-2 win

The final day of the season throws up peculiar results and it may depend on the respective situation each team is in. If they are in a relegation fight, then there is more emphasis on winning the game.

Crystal Palace beat Manchester United 1-0 on the final day of last season, so something interesting could happen again.

Final points tally – 45

The above prediction would earn them 20 points in the next 16 games. If this does happen, then they would be three points worse off than last season’s effort.

The likelihood is many of these predictions are wrong, but the important number is roughly 40 for teams looking to stay in the league, so that should be reassuring for Palace fans.

Last season, 45 points would have been level with Aston Villa in 14th. Patrick Vieira would have hoped for an improvement on last year's 12th place finish so this may be viewed as a disappointing campaign.
