LIONS boss Gary Rowett has confirmed that Mason Bennett and George Honeyman have not returned to training after they picked up knocks against Colchester United.

The duo were both hurt in the pre-season friendly and have not been able to resume training, with Rowett aiming not to rush them back.

However, a positive note, striker Tom Bradshaw has returned to training after he recovered from the injury he picked up during Millwall's 2-0 at Dartford last week.

It is still not known whether he will play a role in the friednly match against Hammarby IF on Wednesday.

Speaking to NewsAtDen, Rowett gave an update on the fitness of the squad ahead of the club’s final two pre-season fixtures before the start of the Championship season.

He said: “Bradders (Tom Bradshaw) trained today (Monday), Mason (Bennett) didn’t, George Honeyman didn’t.

“Honeyman just took a whack in the game (vs Colchester) that swelled up a little bit and stiffened up.

“We’re hopeful that George will train on Tuesday and Mason might not be far behind. We’ll probably have a debate on Mason as to whether we take a risk in the game on Wednesday. Again, a dead leg can sometimes be a bit nasty if you come back too quick.

“At the moment, everyone’s had good training time, everybody’s had reasonably good match minutes, pretty similar apart from some of the younger ones.

“Therefore, we can afford to be sensible with one or two of the decisions we’re making, which is basically not to risk anyone getting a further injury and being out for longer.”
