CHARLTON'S newly appointed manager Ben Garner is looking to add to his squad this summer.
Garner has moved to The Valley on a three-year contract and while he is happy with the core of the squad, he has admitted that he wants to sign the players that will best fit the style of football that he plans to play.
The manager and the club has already discussed recruitment in meetings since his appointment last Wednesday as plans for the 2022/23 season have been made.
Garner told the club website: “We all want the same thing, we want good players at this football club, we have had a lot of negotiations over the last few weeks in making sure that we are all happy with everything and we are all on the same page, which we are.
“My role is to support that, make recommendations and try and get the best players possible for how we are going to play, Thomas [Sandgaard] has been fantastic with that in terms of understanding what I want and like I say we are all on the same page, we are going to use all of the tools available to us.
“But the bottom line is we want the best players possible that fit the style that we are going to play.”
Garner wants to focus on attacking football next season and believes that the core of the squad will be able to help.
He has been watching the club's matches from last season to get an understanding of the players already at the club.
He said: “I am really pleased with what is here, there is a really good nucleus to the squad, obviously we need to add to that now.
“It’s not just good players coming in, it is the right players, the players that fit what we want to do, not just in terms of style of play but in terms of character and attitude, we want good people as well as good players.
“There is a good core here, I am looking forward to meeting them and getting to work, working hard to add to that and get the best possible squad in place ahead of the new season.”
