Millwall’s winning streak came to a disappointing end with a humbling defeat at home to Swansea, who ended their own winless run.

Gary Rowett’s men were looking to pile the misery onto their Welsh visitors, who had lost four straight games coming into this one. The Lions, on the other hand, were seeking their fourth straight win for the first time this season.

The home side had the better of the early stages, looking to take advantage of Swansea’s fragility.

Billy Mitchell and Jake Cooper both saw efforts go wide in the opening five minutes, before Mason Bennett directed a header straight at Freddie Woodman.

Swansea offered little threat early in the first half, hardly surprising from a side without a goal in over 360 minutes.

Jamal Lowe looked the only bright spark for the Swans and he forced Bartosz Bialkowski into a good save from close range on 26 minutes, when he was played in behind Murray Wallace.

However, as Millwall began to sit off, the visitors grew in confidence. Andre Ayew broke his side’s duck with an excellent curled effort from the edge of the box on the stroke of half time.

The Lions came within inches of leveling within a minute of the restart. Jake Cooper winning another header in the Swansea box, this time denied by the inside of the post.

Despite the early chance, the hosts struggled throughout the second half as Swansea began to dominate.

Wayne Routledge saw his effort from inside the 18-yard box well stopped by Bialkowski in the 52nd minute.

The away side will feel they should have had a penalty on the hour mark when Murray Wallace kicked through Ryan Manning, a lucky escape as the Lions tried to stay in the game.

Swansea doubled their lead through Jamal Lowe on 76 minutes, who finished smartly from the edge of the box after Mason Bennett lost the ball in the midfield.

Lowe scored his second and piled the misery onto the home side in the 84th minute. His first touch gave him space around the penalty spot, before he rifled it home into the top right corner.

Defeat arguably end any whispers of a late play-off push for the Lions, who were shown the difference between a top half and a play-off side.
