Here's how we rated Charlton's players in their 1-0 defeat to Middlesbrough.
Dillon Phillips – 6 – Boro’s poor finishing meant he had little to do, but he was ready and waiting when called into action. Brilliantly got down low to deny Lewis Wing in one of his few meaningful saves of the game.
Adam Matthews – 7 – Didn't put a foot wrong defensively, his crossing at the other end was so-so.
Deji Oshilaja – 8 – A star performance at the back following last week. A display worthy of man of the match, although he was made to work for it with Rudy Gestede being a real handful all game. Man of the match.
Jason Pearce – 6 – Had a shaky start within the first few minutes, and it could have been one of those days for him, but he grew into it during the second half. Spared Purrington’s blushes with a crucial block late on.
Ben Purrington – 5 – His poor pass from the throw-in enabled Boro to go on and score. Caught out at the back a couple of times and didn’t produce much in the final third. Replaced with Tomer Hemed.
Darren Pratley – 6 – Seeing his name back on the team sheet would have been a huge relief for Charlton fans and he did show why. Hunted down every loose ball and went close a couple times inside the box.
Josh Cullen – 7 – Was productive at both ends of the pitch – putting in important challenges defensively while setting up chances at the other end. Looked a bit tired towards the end.
George Lapslie – 5 – Got around the pitch a lot without doing very much. Boro appeared to take advantage of him and Purrington being on the same side. Replaced at half-time with Macauley Bonne.
Jonny Williams – 5 – Shifted out to the left wing before gradually drifting inside. Had one or two flashes but failed to influence the game as many would have hoped. Replaced with Alfie Doughty.
Andre Green – 5 – Showed flashes of decent play early on but occasionally dawdled on the ball too long when he could have put his marker under pressure.
Lyle Taylor – 7 – Helped get Charlton up the field with his hold-up play, enabling the set-up of a chance or two. There were a few worried faces when he went down in the second half.
