Here is how we rated Charlton’s players in their 1-0 defeat to Birmingham City.
Dillon Phillips - 6 - He was a spectator got large periods of the first half before Birmingham began to exert themselves. The goal was a good finish from Bellingham, but Phillips had great reactions to deny Lukas Jutkiewicz.
Chris Solly - 6 - He was productive in both areas of the pitch. His crunching tackle on Jutkiewicz drew huge applause from fans before he forced Lee Camp into one of his only two meaningful saves of the game.
Tom Lockyer - 7 - Made few mistakes and it is becoming clear he has cemented a starting spot that Naby Sarr would do well to win back. Did brilliantly to put off Álvaro Giménez in a late chance Pep Clotet described as ‘clear-cut’.
Jason Pearce - 7 - Met every aerial duel with conviction as usual. Jutkiewicz was a handful though and he had to be on it.
Ben Purrington - 6 - He was occasionally a threat going forward and teed up Solly for that late chance. Looked frustrated with Leko on several occasions when their link-up play did not come off.

Sam Field - 5 - Not a great performance. He was beaten far too easily for the goal and his passes were a little wayward at times. Having said that, he made a couple of brilliant blocks. Replaced with Aneke.
Conor Gallagher - 8 - He just keeps impressing. Outstanding energy and work rate throughout but he should have scored - and he probably knows it. Man of the match.
Josh Cullen - 7 - On a high from winning his first senior cap for the Republic of Ireland, he carried that momentum into this with an excellent first half. Could have done better to stop Maxime Colin for the second goal but still effective.
Erhun Oztumer - 5 - Struggled to stamp his influence on the game and was a bit of a passenger at times. He was substituted for Williams shortly before the hour mark and his replacement clearly made an impact.
Tomer Hemed - 6 - Lee Bowyer said he was not fully match fit yet but he gave a good account of himself. Hold-up play was hit and miss, could have done better with the chances he had.
Jonathan Leko - 5 - You always need to be patient with a young player who, not only has good potential, but is playing significant minutes in a different position. This is is one of those times to be patient. Birmingham kept him quiet. Replaced with Kayal.
