Sam Baldock’s proposed move to Charlton Athletic has fallen through according to reports.
Addicks boss Lee Bowyer was thought to be keen in taking the 30-year-old to The Valley but the strikers wage demands have seemingly put an end to any deal.
Bowyer, with Lyle Taylor and new signing Macauley Bonne leading his front line, admitted he’s keen to bring two more strikers to the club and identified Baldock as a potential target.
Baldock however is un-willing to take a pay cut on the 'significant salary package' signed at Reading in 2018, meaning any loan move to cash strapped Charlton is unlikely according to The Reading Chronicle.
Former Brighton-man Baldock was told by manager Jose Gomes he was no longer required at the Madjeski, alerting clubs to his availability with Charlton keen to take advantage of the situation.
With five goals in 21 appearances for the Royals, Baldock failed to make the impact expected as they found themselves in a relegation battle for the majority last season, resulting in the club's decision to let him leave.
And with financial fair play (FFP) playing a big part in every clubs dealings this season, Reading were hoping to off-load some of their ‘bigger’ earners, a category Baldock was in.
His insistence that his wages be paid in-full upon any transfer, loan or permanent, has all but ended Bowyer’s chances of landing the former MK Dons, West Ham and Bristol City man.
