Lee Bowyer declared his love for Anfernee Dijksteel but wants more in the final third from the defender.
Dijksteel was chosen at right-back ahead of club captain Chris Solly for Bradford’s visit to The Valley where the Addicks ran out 1-0 winners thanks to Lyle Taylor’s strike.
Bowyer, despite seeing need for improvement in the 22-year-old, believes the future is bright for the Dutchman.
“He’s a machine, his physicality is incredible,” Bowyer said of Dijksteel.
“I love him, he’s a great kid.
“But he needs to work on end his end product.
“There’s no point getting in that area without creating something and today he didn’t create enough.
“He’s got things he needs to work on and he’s learning the position.
“But he’s very good and he’s got great potential.
“We’ll keep working on that final ball and he will improve.”
Bowyer said that due to a virus earlier in the week Chris Solly was limited to just two training schedules since their last outing which affected his decision, but insisted that selecting Dijksteel was ‘not weakening the side.’
